Tinybird is the real-time data platform for data and engineering teams. Unify your data sources, build real-time data pipelines with SQL, and empower your organization to build with data.

Our Jobs

Backend Engineer

We are looking for someone to join the team as a Backend Engineer that:

  • Is a highly experienced Backend Engineer building complex web applications. The language is not important, we use Python today, but we are not tied to anything.
  • Experience working with Systems and distributed Cloud architectures, creating fast, easy-to-use, high volume production applications, and engineer prototypes quickly.
  • Contributes to engineering efforts from planning and organization, to execution and delivery to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Loves data and SQL
  • Accountable and enthusiastic to take on the responsibility of designing and managing the platform, and an urge to take on things that may be broken. Unafraid to break stuff because you own it and can fix it if need be.
  • Bias for action, iteration and delivery. Conscious that often decisions can be reversed quickly and that speed is of the essence in business and technology.
  • Experience working with in-house Databases clusters is a plus.

How your typical day would look

Tinybird is full of early birds (pun intended). We wake up early to read email and catch up with all the Basecamp notifications, tickets and so on (other times some of us just go for a run).

We use Basecamp for daily coordination and planning, GitLab for issue tracking and milestones, and Google Docs to discuss things like product decisions. There is always something to read and discuss. We like meetings but we don't like too many meetings, that's why a few meetings are open to everyone within the company (Customer success, product status and our bi-weely Town Hall) while we focus on creating small and productive teams for solving big problems.

We talk about product every day. It needs to be a balance between today and tomorrow's problems so the vision of someone that is working with the product to fix real problems is crucial (that'd be you as well).

Our product design approach is quite simple: someone proposes a solution to a problem something, explains why it's important and describes how it would work. Then, everyone else asks questions and we decide if that makes sense or not. You'll be part of this, of course.

We also take time to write blog posts about how to do things with our product. It's hard to keep up with the pace, especially if we have a problem or an unexpected client request, but writing those helps us a lot.

‍Some bits about the way we work

  • We are a fully remote company, and not just because of COVID19. All of our previous companies were remote friendly companies.
  • We give you up to 2400€ to get the right setup at home if you need it
  • We are just starting up so your work will impact everything we do. We also believe in full transparency and you will always know what is going on

Here you have our company principles.

‍The hiring process

We try to simplify the process as much as we can, and we don't like to extend it with any candidate more than two weeks (if the whole process is completed):

  • Selected candidates will be invited to schedule a screening call with our tech team.
  • First contact meeting: where you will meet two other Tinybird backend engineers.
  • Test: simple async test, where there is no limited time (although we encourage to not spend more than 4 hours).
  • Test Review: where you will meet two other Tinybird backend engineers and discuss with them your proposal
  • Following successful interviews, you will be invited to schedule a final meeting with a founder and/or members of the team.
  • We make you an offer.
  • That's it!

Compensation

  • A competitive package, including Stock Options.
  • Up to 90K depending on experience.
  • 22 days of holiday a year (plus your birthday and public holidays), but… who's counting?
  • Freedom to work from wherever suits you best. This time, we are looking for people based in the time zone range: UTC -2 to UTC +3.

Developer Advocate

If you’re excited about:

  • Helping data engineers find resourceful and creative ways to solve their most pressing problems.
  • Creating engaging and interesting content that teaches data engineers about complex topics…
  • Becoming a valued, respected, and oft-cited member of the data engineering community…
  • Working with people who value speed, empathy, and teamwork…

Then this is your chance to join a fast-growing, early-stage, and well-funded startup determined to shape the future of data engineering.

What you’ll do in this role

You will be responsible for creating content, speaking at events, and representing Tinybird in the data engineering community. You will bring your considerable data engineering experience not only to promote Tinybird, but to support the data engineering discipline itself. You will report to the Head of Developer Relations and work closely with marketing, sales, and the executive team.

  • Build effective content at a rapid clip. Our content is technically deep, but written and recorded in an accessible, friendly manner. We aren’t focused on 100-level content, rather we aim to deliver 300- and 400-level material. Rarely will someone tell you what content to write or record. We will count on you to understand the customer, analyze the performance of your content, and know what to build next.
  • Execute exemplary events. Event marketing is a core component of our go-to-market strategy. You will submit CFPs, speak at events, and support our overall event presence. Expect about 30% travel in this role, across both the United States and Europe.
  • Represent Tinybird in the data engineering community. Ideally, you are already well-known among data engineers. Perhaps you are a serial Redditor, maybe you write thoughtful posts on your blog. However you plan to build your profile, we need you to represent yourself and Tinybird respectfully and, in the process, evangelize Tinybird
  • Advocate for the customer. In building content, writing demos, and delivering talks, you will interact quite a bit with the product and customers. You will have real-world knowledge of how Tinybird is used. We’re a startup, and we have a lot to learn. We are counting on you to represent our customers with our product team and use your background and authority to effect change in our product direction.

That sounds like a lot, and it is. We’re an early-stage startup, and pace and quality of execution are paramount to our success. We understand that startups aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. As we say at Tinybird: Speed Wins. We don’t dither in endless meetings. We execute, analyze our performance, and adjust going forward.

Requirements for this role

  • 5+ years of experience as a data engineer
  • 2+ years of experience in a customer-facing role, such as Developer Advocacy, Sales Engineering, or Customer Success
  • 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
  • Proven, prolific technical content development experience (please provide examples in the field below)
  • Strong business acumen, with thoughts and opinions on where the data engineering discipline needs to evolve and grow
  • Passion for developers, data engineers, and nerd culture
  • An unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Comfort in a remote-first environment…we all work our local hours, so asynchronous communication and fast, independent execution are critical

  • We give you up to 2400€ to get the right setup at home if you need it

  • A background/experience/skills interview (30 mins)
  • A final interview with one of the founders (30 mins).
  • We make you an offer.
  • That's it!

Compensation

  • A competitive compensation package up to $160k, depending on location + experience, including Stock Options
  • Holidays. We will not count the days you take but we at least grant you 22 days of holidays per year. Plus, your birthday off and public holidays… but, who’s counting?
  • Work remotely. Freedom to work from wherever suits you best. For this role, we’re ideally looking for candidates based in the US East coast or Europe
  • Flexible office hours. At Tinybird, we do not have fixed office hours. You manage your own time.
