DevOps Engineer

Quantexa are looking for Mid, Senior and Lead level DevOps Engineers to address the increasing demands on our cloud solutions, which underpin our company’s rapid growth. The position will offer opportunities to work with cutting edge cloud technologies and deliver industry leading cloud-based offerings of the Quantexa Platform.

Requirements

You'll be joining one of our DevOps teams in our R&D department working on the Quantexa Cloud Platform and accompanying solutions. The platform is comprised of a landscape of lowmaintenance, on-demand, and highly secure environments. Our environments host Quantexa products and services for our customers and partners. Supported use cases include fraud detection, news intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing, to name a few. Our environments also support a variety of internal use cases, including research and development or R&D and software development lifecycle or SDLC processes.

You’ll be heavily involved with our cloud-based technical infrastructure, with responsibilities surrounding improving the availability and resilience of our platform, improving its usability and security, ensuring we stay at the forefront of technical innovation, and reducing toil across our estate. You will also work alongside our software engineering teams to leverage DevOps techniques to support our software release activities and work on unique cloud-based product offerings for our customers to use in their own DevOps processes on their own Cloud estate.

Our tech stack

  • A strong focus on Docker/Kubernetes/Istio
  • DevOps tooling/automation written with Bash/Python/Groovy/Jenkins/Golang
  • Provisioning software/frameworks (Elasticsearch/Spark/Hadoop/PostgreSQL)
  • Infrastructure Management - CasC, IasC (Ansible, Terraform, Packer)
  • Log and metric aggregation with Fluentd, Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager
  • Public Cloud, primarily GCP, but also AWS and Azure

What do I need to have?

  • Take pride in designing, building and delivering high quality well engineered solutions to complex problems
  • Take a big picture approach to solving problems, taking care to ensure that the solution works well within the wider system
  • In-depth exposure to a handful of the key parts of our tech stack listed above
  • Experience with programming/scripting/automation
  • Good appreciation for information security principals
  • Experience with infrastructure management and general Linux administration
  • Must be able to speak both English and Spanish fluently

Experience in the following would be beneficial:

  • Experience managing microservice based architectures (scaling, upgrading, traffic management, deployment strategies)
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Experience with software build and release engineering

Full Stack Software Engineer

What will you be doing?

In this role you will be working on building new back end and front-end features on the Quantexa Platform.

Our products process huge volumes of data with the ultimate aim of detecting anomalous and suspicious activity. The user interface we provide enables users to conduct complex investigations into fraud and financial crime cases and visualise complex networks of criminal activity.

On the back end, our services are primarily written in Scala and deployed as microservices. We are huge fans of functional and strongly typed programming, making use of libraries such as Cats and Shapeless. We also use Akka and Monix to help build scalable, highly performant, distributed services. We utilise techniques such as event sourcing and CQRS in our persistence layer to ensure our datastores are scalable and flexible.

The front end has been developed using modern front-end tools and frameworks such as TypeScript, Angular 6+ and ngrx and has been designed from the ground up to be highly extensible and allow for customisation to meet varying requirements.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Take pride in designing, building, and delivering high quality well engineered solutions to complex problems.
  • Have experience functional programming using Scala AND/OR experience using modern front-end frameworks, ideally Angular 2+.
  • Have experience with the full engineering life cycle, from design and implementation through to testing and deployment.
  • Want to build a rich, data driven application.
  • Take a big picture approach to solving problems, taking care to ensure that the solution works well within the wider system.
  • Love working with the latest technology.
  • Passion and drive to grow within one of the UK’s fastest-growing Start-ups.

Experience in the following would be beneficial:

  • Working across the entire software stack from the server‐side and batch processing components to the front‐end web development.
  • Working with Java and the JVM.
  • Has a keen eye for detail with regards to design and UX.
  • Knowledge working with any of the following technologies or libraries: Akka, Monix, Cats. Shapeless, Spring Boot, Elasticsearch, Gradle, Apache Spark, Hadoop, Docker, Kubernetes.

You will be joining Quantexa's R&D team which currently consists of over 40 engineers, working across the front and back end of the application.

What does a Senior Data Engineer role at Quantexa look like?

In order to be a successful data Engineer at Quantexa, you’ll need to be comfortable dealing with both internal and external stakeholders You will be managing, transforming and cleansing high volume data, helping our Tier 1 clients solve business problems in the area of fraud, compliance and financial crime.

You’ll be working closely with Data Scientists, Business Analysts, Technical Leads, Project Managers and Solutions Architects, with everyone following the same goal of meeting our Clients expectations and delivering a first-class service. 🥇

We want our employees to use the latest and leading open source big-data technology possible. You will be using tools such as Spark, Hadoop, Scala, Data Fusion and Elasticsearch, with our platform being hosted on Google cloud (GCP). Our primary language is written in Scala, but don’t worry If that’s not your strongest language or if you haven’t used it before, we make sure that every Quantexan goes through our training academy so they’re comfortable and confident with using our platform.

What do I need to have?

  • We’re looking for individuals who have proven big data experience, either from an implementation or a data science prospective.
  • The desire to learn and code in Scala
  • Experience in working in an Agile environment
  • Expert knowledge of at least one big data technology such as Spark, Hadoop, or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience of building data processing pipelines for use in production “hands off” batch systems, including either traditional ETL pipelines and/or analytics pipelines.
  • Passion and drive to grow within one of the UK’s fastest growing scale-ups.
  • Consulting or business facing skills and a desire to work with customers.

What do I need to have?

  • Strong experience in hands-on technical deliveries, leading technical teams from design through to implementation of production systems
  • Excellent technical skills including recent hands-on coding experience of at least one of the following Spark, Scala, Java or production grade Python
  • Strong understanding of SDLC principles, including use of unit testing, git and CI/CD, and how to set up good practices on a new project
  • Experience with technical and solution design, including designing systems to address non-functional requirements (e.g. performance, maintainability, security, and systems integration)
  • Experience of managing multiple projects, preferably in an Agile environment
  • Extensive experience working with data and addressing common challenges such as data quality, updates, data structure changes and rollback
